Dangote Refinery Discusses Ongoing Court Case Involving NNPCL And Related PartiesNaija News reports that five additional companies—Aym Shafa Limited, A. A. Rano Limited, T. Time Petroleum Limited, 2015 Petroleum Limited, and Matrix Petroleum Services Limited—are involved in a lawsuit initiated by Dangote Refinery. The suit, filed by Ogwu Onoja, SAN, under case number FHC/ABJ/CS/1324/2024 before Justice Inyang Ekwo, names the Nigeria Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA) and the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) as the 1st and 2nd defendants.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

The five companies are listed as the 3rd to 7th defendants in the originating summons dated September 6. Dangote Refinery is seeking N100 billion in damages from NMDPRA, alleging that it has continued to issue import licenses to NNPCL and the other companies for the importation of petroleum products, specifically Automotive Gas Oil (AGO) and Jet Fuel, despite Dangote’s capacity to produce sufficient quantities to meet Nigeria’s daily consumption.

The plaintiff argues that NMDPRA is in violation of Sections 317(8) and (9) of the Petroleum Industry Act (PIA) by granting these importation licenses.

However, Anthony Chiejina, Group Chief Branding and Communications Officer of Dangote Group, emphasized that the lawsuit is not a new issue, explaining that it originated in June and culminated in the September filing. He noted that discussions are ongoing among the parties involved following President Bola Tinubu’s directive on the sales of crude oil and refined products in Naira, which was approved by the Federal Executive Council.

Chiejina added, “We have made significant progress in that regard, and events have overtaken this development. No party has been served with court documents, and there is no intention to do so. We have agreed to suspend the proceedings.
