This announcement was made by Tunde Mabogunje, the Regional Sales Director of Dangote Cement Plc for Lagos/Ogun, during the recent Dangote Day at the 2024 Gateway International Trade Fair in Abeokuta.

Mabogunje underscored the conglomerate’s dedication to bolstering the manufacturing sector as opposed to reliance on imports, with the aim of fostering economic growth and reducing dependence on foreign goods.

“Our primary objective is to strengthen Nigeria’s capability to manufacture what it consumes, particularly in sectors where we are active, thereby contributing to economic stability and the generation of employment opportunities,” he stated.

Mabogunje highlighted the alignment between the trade fair’s theme, “Achieving Economic Prosperity Through Business Connection, Trade, and Investment,” and the objectives of the Dangote Group, emphasizing their focus on domestic manufacturing utilizing Nigeria’s abundant raw materials.

He pointed out that their substantial investments across multiple sectors have been instrumental in adding value to raw materials and converting them into finished goods.

“Our food subsidiaries, including Dangote Sugar Refinery, NASCON Allied Industries (Dangote Salt), and Dangote Rice, are actively creating jobs through various initiatives. Dangote Sugar Refinery, through its out-grower and backward integration schemes, has generated employment opportunities for thousands of farmers in the surrounding communities,” Mabogunje explained.

He further highlighted the transformative impact of Dangote Fertiliser on agriculture in Nigeria, noting its rapid rise to become one of the market leaders since commencing operations.

The Ogun State Chamber of Commerce, Industry, Mines, and Agriculture (OGUNCCIMA), speaking at the event, lauded the Dangote Group as the driving force behind the Gateway International Trade Fair.

OGUNCCIMA President, Engr. Mike Akingbade, expressed gratitude for Dangote Industries Limited’s consistent sponsorship of the trade fair over the years, emphasizing the pivotal role played by the company in activating the trade fair.

He stressed the importance of fostering strong business connections, engaging in trade activities, and making strategic investments to unlock new markets, stimulate economic growth, and enhance overall prosperity.
