The chairmanship bid, supported by a former National Security Adviser, retired generals, and former government officials, is reportedly not receiving the anticipated support within the party. Sources in Abuja shared that Mark’s campaign is falling short of the positive response his backers had hoped for, with some insiders suggesting the attempt has faltered.

Additionally, Mark is said to be personally reluctant due to his age and other reasons, raising concerns that the campaign may be abandoned. The demands of the role, particularly extensive nationwide travel, are seen as challenging for him at this stage. Mark is also reportedly discouraged by ongoing legal battles surrounding the party’s leadership, leading to questions about how effectively he could steer the PDP by December 2025.
