In a statement released by his spokesperson, Olawale Rasheed, Adeleke announced that he would convene a meeting of the State Security Council next week to review recent security incidents, including the clash between the two agencies.
The council will hear reports from various security agencies and state officials, including Deputy Governor Kola Adewusi, who intervened prior to the escalation of the conflict.
Reports indicate that the clash occurred on October 22 and 23 at Elizabeth Estate, Osogbo, resulting in the arrest and detention of NSCDC personnel by the Osun State Police Command. State Commandant Michael Adaralewa has called for a thorough investigation to hold those responsible accountable.
According to a statement from the NSCDC, police officers from Oyo State attempted to arrest suspected criminals at the estate, but were met with resistance from NSCDC personnel, leading to physical confrontations.
On the other hand, the Osun State Police Command, represented by spokesperson Yemisi Opalola, stated that their officers were acting on a legitimate mission and claimed they were assaulted by NSCDC personnel, who also damaged their vehicle.
Governor Adeleke highlighted the rising incidents of confrontations between police and civilians, urging all service commanders to enforce discipline within their ranks to maintain a harmonious relationship between security forces and the community.
He warned against heavy-handed law enforcement and called on all parties to avoid actions that could undermine Osun State’s reputation for peace.
“I urge our commanders to uphold discipline and operational standards. We must restore normalcy and prevent further confrontations. These urgent issues will be addressed at the upcoming security council meeting,” he stated, reaffirming the commitment to strengthen inter-agency cooperation.
