Davido Fires Back At Erigga Over Family Money Post In Explosive Exchange

Nigerian rapper Erhiga Agarivbie, popularly known as Erigga, has sparked a heated debate on social media following a post about musicians who built their careers without coming from wealthy families.

The rapper took to X late Tuesday to commend artistes who, according to him, did not have the advantage of family wealth and had to work hard for every dollar they earned.

“Shoutout to all the musicians who don’t come from family money and had to grind for every single dollar they earn,” Erigga wrote.

His post, however, attracted the attention of Afrobeats superstar Davido, who responded by quoting the rapper’s message and offering a different perspective on musicians from affluent backgrounds.

According to Bush Radio Academy, Davido argued that artistes who started with financial support from their families should also be recognised for working hard to build successful careers.

“No be we say make your pops no guard o. Shoutout to those that started with family money and continue to work their way up,” Davido stated.

The exchange escalated after Davido described Erigga’s message as “useless motivation” and referred to the rapper as an “imbecile.”

The development quickly generated a heated debate among X users, with tens of thousands of posts reportedly discussing the disagreement.

While some users defended Erigga, arguing that his post was simply an appreciation of musicians who achieved success despite having limited financial advantages, others interpreted the message as a subtle criticism of Davido, who was born into an affluent family.

One user argued that Erigga’s original post did not directly mention Davido and questioned why the singer appeared to take offence. The user also praised Erigga for frequently using his platform to inspire people.

Another commenter challenged Erigga to directly mention Davido if the rapper’s post was intended as a reference to the singer.

Some users, however, sided with Davido and maintained that coming from a wealthy family does not automatically invalidate the hard work required to achieve success in the entertainment industry.

The online exchange has since continued to fuel debate over family wealth, privilege, self-made success and the extent to which financial background influences the careers of Nigerian entertainers.
