Davido Ignored Me For Two Weeks — Mayorkun Reveals What Happened After Quitting Banking Job
Nigerian singer Adewale Mayowa Emmanuel, popularly known as Mayorkun, has recounted how Afrobeats superstar Davido eventually signed him after allegedly leaving him without a response for two weeks.
According to Bush Radio Academy, Mayorkun shared the experience during a recent episode of the Afropolitan podcast, explaining that he had resigned from his banking job after Davido expressed interest in signing him.
The singer said Davido, whose real name is David Adeleke, had discovered him through a video of him singing online and subsequently indicated an interest in working with him.
However, Mayorkun revealed that he became anxious when the music star stopped communicating with him for two weeks after he had already left his job.
He said the unexpected silence left him uncertain about his future, as he did not know whether Davido would eventually contact him again or proceed with the proposed record deal.
Mayorkun explained that the uncertainty prompted him to seek spiritual support, leading him to begin attending church as he hoped for a positive outcome.
According to the singer, the turning point came on a day he had led a praise and worship session at church. Shortly after the session, he received a WhatsApp message from Davido.
Mayorkun recalled that he had barely finished the worship session and was returning to his seat when the message arrived.
“Davido stopped replying to me for two weeks after I quit my banking job. I started going to church, and one day, immediately after singing praise and worship, he texted me on WhatsApp to pack my luggage and come to his house. It was more than a testimony,” he said.
The singer added that he had been panicking before receiving the message because he was unsure whether Davido would contact him again.
“You may not believe me, but I haven’t even returned to my seat after leading the praise and worship before he messaged. I was on my way to my seat. Before then, I was in panic because I wasn’t sure whether Davido would talk to me again,” Mayorkun stated.
The message eventually led to Mayorkun moving into Davido’s house and becoming part of Davido Music Worldwide (DMW), a development that helped launch his career into the Nigerian music industry.
Mayorkun has since established himself as a recognised name in Afrobeats, with his account highlighting the uncertainty he experienced before securing the opportunity that changed the course of his musical journey.
