“Nigerians often lament, ‘If only our refineries were functional, we’d prosper.’ That couldn’t be more off the mark. In reality, what Nigerians should collectively advocate for is the non-functioning of these refineries. It’s high time we considered selling them off. The National Assembly highlighted that we’ve sunk over N10 trillion into the upkeep of our refineries, despite them remaining largely unproductive. Should our refineries begin to process crude oil, with our current inefficiencies, we’re looking at producing perhaps the world’s priciest petrol per litre. We’d essentially be trading subsidies at the pump for refinery subsidies.”

However, in a recent twist, the chairman of the Trade Union Congress (TUC) divulged that the Port Harcourt (PH) Refinery is slated to resume operations by December. This commitment was reportedly given by President Tinubu during dialogues aiming to avert a nationwide strike. CONTINUE READING
