Two residents of Briun community in Bou-Ko kingdom, Khana Local Government Area, Rivers State, were shot dead during a night attack by gunmen on Tuesday. Bright Nwiyorde, a local resident and Chairman of the Ken Saro-Wiwa Surveillance Group, has called for a thorough investigation into the attack and urged authorities to bring the perpetrators to justice. He also emphasized the need for enhanced security measures to prevent future incidents.
Nwiyorde stated, “We are calling on the government, the Commissioner of Police, the Khana Local Government Area chairman, and local security agencies to investigate and address this issue. I am also conducting my own investigation to support government efforts.”
When contacted, Grace Iringe-Koko, the spokesperson for the state police command, noted she had not yet received a report on the incident but promised to consult with the Divisional Police Officer of the area and provide an update. As of Thursday evening, no further information had been provided.
