The promotions, sanctioned by the Army Council on December 21, included the elevation of 47 brigadiers general to major general and 75 colonels to the esteemed rank of brigadier general.

The newly-appointed brigadier generals are set to be formally decorated at their respective units and formations, marking a ceremonial acknowledgment of their elevated positions within the military hierarchy.

Minister of State for Defence, Bello Matawalle, lauded the promoted officers, characterizing their advancements as a testament to years of unwavering dedication and commitment in service to the nation. He emphasized the requisite qualities of courage, discipline, and resilience that propelled them through the ranks, citing their exceptional leadership, strategic thinking, and profound understanding displayed throughout their careers.

Addressing the decorated officers, Matawalle expressed confidence in their ability to continue serving the nation with honor and distinction. He urged them to lead by example, inspiring others to follow in their commendable footsteps.

Chief of Army Staff, Lt.-Gen. Taoreed Lagbaja, joined in congratulating the newly promoted major generals. He emphasized that their elevation was a recognition of their hard work and unwavering commitment to duty. Lagbaja underscored the military’s intolerance for incompetence and urged the officers to bring their best to the fore, now that they have attained a level of involvement in policy formulation within the military structure.
