Defying The People! Lagos Council Sparks Uproar With Controversial Street Renaming Full List
Amid growing controversy over the renaming of roads and landmarks in Lagos State, the Eti-Osa Local Government Area has officially renamed six streets under its ongoing street-naming and revalidation project.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
This development follows closely behind the uproar in Bariga Local Council Development Area, where a similar initiative by former chairman Kolade Alabi—including the renaming of the iconic “Charly Boy Bus Stop” to “Olamide Baddo Bus Stop”—faced significant public backlash.
Prominent voices, including human rights advocate Femi Falana (SAN), condemned that move, calling it unconstitutional.
In a public notice issued Friday, signed by Council Manager Mrs. Oluwakemi Oshun, the Eti-Osa council announced that the new street names take immediate effect. Residents, businesses, and members of the public are urged to update their records to reflect the changes.
According to the council, the exercise is intended to honour cultural and historical figures, improve urban navigation and planning, and support better identity management.
The streets renamed are:
-
Tony Amadasun Road (Igbo Efon) → Chief Femi Pedro Road
-
Dr. Udo Wogu Drive (Chevy View) → Chief Adebola Dosunmu Drive
-
Augusta Orji Street (Aro Ologolo Road) → Alhaji Adio Mayegun Street
-
Chike Mba Close (Osapa London) → Hon. Sikiru Ashorota Close
-
Ugochukwu Orji Street (Igbo Efon) → Barr. Wale Sanni Street
-
