The Delta State Police Command detained Sofia Nkwo, a 24-year-old woman, on Thursday, alleging her involvement in the tragic death of her one-year-old son. Reports reveal that Nkwo purportedly abandoned her fourteen-month-old baby in a well along the Araya Community’s road in Isoko South Local Government Area.
Nkwo admitted to ending her son’s life, citing an inability to care for him any longer, especially after the child’s father rejected him.
Commissioner of Police Abaniwonda Olufemi publicly condemned Nkwo’s actions during the parade of suspects at the police headquarters in Asaba, the capital of Delta State. The police chief disclosed that children playing nearby made the horrifying discovery of the abandoned child floating in the well.
Olufemi stated, “On April 28, 2024, a case of infanticide was reported at Oleh Division, that a suspect named Sofia Nkwor, 24, from Isoko south LGA, dumped her child of one year and four months old in a well along the road in Araya community Isoko south LGA.”
“The mother, Sofia Nkwor, was immediately arrested, and she stated that she dumped the child on 26th April 2024.
