Delta Residents Praise State Government For Restoring Power After 15 Years

Communities involved include Ekuku-Agbor, Obi-Agbor, Egbudu Akan, among others. Delta State Governor Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori and Ika South Local Government Chairman Engr. Jerry Ehiwarior played key roles in fulfilling the long-awaited promise of power restoration.

Residents celebrated the completion of the substation, marking an end to years of blackout, and praised the governor and chairman for their efforts. Sources indicate that Engr. Ehiwarior took significant steps to initiate the restoration soon after becoming Commissioner for Power and Energy in 2023. Despite resigning from the position in March, he ensured the project’s completion.

The state government awarded a contract to revive the power substation at Ekuku-Agbor, responding to Ehiwarior’s appeals. The community’s joy was palpable as they hailed Gov. Oborevwori and Engr. Ehiwarior as empathetic leaders.

Community leaders, including Chief P. C. Aliemeke, Mr. Simon Okocha, President-General of Ekuku-Agbor, and Chief Isaac Ebonka of Agbor-Alidinma, expressed their happiness at witnessing this significant moment after years of despair.

In their thanks, the residents noted that their faith in the state government had been renewed. “With electricity restored, economic activities in Ekuku-Agbor and neighboring communities across Ika South and Aniocha South Local Government Areas have been revitalized,” they stated. Ehiwarior had previously promised to advocate for the restoration of electricity upon taking office.
