Delta Tension: Keyamo Accuses NDC-Linked Thugs Of Looting Shops, Destroying Campaign Billboards
Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, has alleged that suspected supporters of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) attacked his community in Effurun, Uvwie Local Government Area of Delta State, during a political confrontation on September 18, 2026.
Keyamo alleged that the attackers destroyed campaign billboards and invaded shops, where they reportedly took away goods. He made the allegations in a post on X on Sunday, September 20, while sharing footage which he said showed the incident.
According to Bush Radio Academy, Keyamo claimed that campaign billboards associated with Tompolo’s door-to-door campaign organisation were destroyed during the incident. He further alleged that some of those involved were carrying dangerous weapons when they entered shops in the area.
The minister also alleged that some law enforcement personnel accompanied the attackers, although the claims have not been independently established. He said he would submit a petition to the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, requesting a thorough investigation into the incident.
Keyamo said anyone found culpable should face appropriate action, adding that his planned petition would not be limited to members of the NDC. He stated that any APC member found to have crossed the line should equally be held accountable.
The minister also criticised what he described as unequal reactions to incidents of political violence, comparing the Effurun incident with the recent disruption of Peter Obi’s entourage in Benue State, which he said he had previously condemned.
The development follows a confrontation involving political supporters in Effurun during an NDC mobilisation march on September 18. The Delta State Government subsequently directed security agencies to investigate the incident and ensure that anyone found responsible faces the law.
The state government also called for restraint, stressing that political competition should not degenerate into violence, intimidation or thuggery and that political parties should be allowed to campaign peacefully across the state.
Keyamo, meanwhile, urged his supporters and other residents not to resort to self-help, insisting that the matter should be handled through the appropriate legal and security channels.
He said he would pursue the planned police petition and seek accountability for anyone found to have participated in the alleged destruction, looting or other acts of violence.
