His remarks come in the wake of recent defections by Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori and Akwa Ibom State Governor Umo Eno, both of whom left the PDP for the APC. Their exit also coincides with the reconciliation brokered by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu between FCT Minister Nyesom Wike and suspended Rivers State Governor Sim Fubara.

Oborevwori and Eno had attributed their defection to internal crises plaguing the PDP.

However, speaking on Channels Television’s Sunrise Daily on Tuesday, Ologbondiyan rejected the notion that PDP’s internal disputes are the root cause of the defections. Instead, he asserted that PDP governors are being subjected to political harassment and pressure ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Commenting on the Rivers State situation, he acknowledged that the truce reached among Wike, Fubara, and Tinubu was a political setback for the PDP.

Ologbondiyan called on party members to move past the Rivers conflict and concentrate on shielding their governors from coercion.

“Let me be frank. The PDP made efforts—some were missteps, others constructive—in the Rivers case. But the key lesson for the party is this: our governors are facing intimidation.
They’re being humiliated, and even if they can’t publicly admit it, many are being pressured to leave the PDP and join President Bola Tinubu’s APC,” he stated.
