Back in 2019, Senator Dickson, then the governor, navigated internal opposition within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to ensure Diri became the party’s candidate in the November 2019 gubernatorial election.

During a traditional Christmas visit to Dickson’s residence in Toru-Orua, Sgbama Local Government Area, Governor Diri acknowledged the absence of a godfather dynamic in their political relationship. He conveyed that their camaraderie has remained intact since Dickson left office in 2020, highlighting the continuous support he receives without any overbearing influence.

Governor Diri’s Chief Press Secretary, Mr. Daniel Alabrah, quoted him as expressing gratitude for the enduring unity between himself and the former governor, emphasizing its positive impact on the state’s peace and development.

Diri reminisced about their longstanding association dating back to their days in the Ijaw National Congress (INC) and their roles as commissioners during the Dr. Goodluck Jonathan administration in the state. He expressed optimism that this bond would persist.

Furthermore, Governor Diri credited Dickson for his pivotal role in securing the governorship seat and for supporting him in the November 11 gubernatorial election. He commended the people of Bayelsa for maintaining peace and unity, asking for forgiveness from anyone they may have offended.

Senator Dickson, in response, commended Governor Diri for sustaining the tradition of the Christmas visit initiated three years ago. He described the visit as emblematic of brotherhood, love, and peace, urging the people to embrace a similar spirit for the state’s progress.

Dickson, while congratulating Diri on his electoral victory, praised his accomplishments in office and expressed confidence in his ability to achieve more during his second term. He highlighted the progress made in the state, attributing it to maturity and brotherliness, and urged continued stability for Bayelsa’s future.
