In a video posted on his X account on Thursday, Melaye called on the federal government and the presidency to take the protesters’ demands and prayers seriously. He remarked, “Hunger is a unifying factor in Nigeria today. The government must respond to the protesters’ concerns as hungry people are often angry. We must respect our citizens, and the government should meet the protesters’ demands. I also urge protesters to avoid damaging public property and to maintain a peaceful demonstration. With God’s grace, Nigeria will overcome.”
DAILY POST reports that a nationwide protest is underway from August 1 to August 10, 2024, with organizers expressing frustration over widespread hunger and inflation in the country.
