The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) has confirmed that the fire outbreak on a dry crude storage barge at Cawthorne Channel 1 in Rivers State has been successfully contained.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

The fire, which ignited around 2:10 p.m. on Wednesday, started on the BESTAF5 barge and quickly spread to other nearby barges in the area.

Located between Bonny and Degema Local Government Areas, the Cawthorne Channel is a crucial hub for oil and gas operations. However, swift intervention by emergency response teams and industry partners prevented further escalation of the incident.

No Impact on Operations

In a statement on Thursday, NNPCL’s Chief Corporate Communications Officer, Olufemi Soneye, assured that the incident did not disrupt operations at the flow station.

“Thanks to the swift response of our emergency teams and industry partners, the fire was successfully contained. The incident did not impact flow station operations,” Soneye stated.

He further reassured the public that there were no casualties, and all personnel remained safe.

“Most importantly, there were no casualties, and all personnel are safe,” he added.

Reaffirming its commitment to safety and environmental protection, NNPCL emphasized that it remains dedicated to maintaining operational integrity across all its facilities.

“NNPC Ltd. prioritizes safety and remains fully committed to environmental protection and operational integrity,” Soneye stated.
