Divorced At 24: Woman Reveals How Even Close Friends Saw Her As A Threat To Their Marriages
A Nigerian woman, Oge Ojukwu, has shared her painful journey through divorce at the young age of 24, describing it as both traumatic and deeply revealing.
In a Facebook post on Sunday, September 7, Oge recounted how she lost millions of naira while pursuing justice, only to be cheated by the very friends and people she turned to for support.
She revealed that some of her closest friends secretly feared she might “snatch their husbands” simply because she was divorced, forcing her to cut ties to ease their insecurities.
Reflecting on her ordeal, she wrote:
“I married early and didn’t really understand how life outside worked. At 24, I found myself divorced and also lost my dad in the same year. I spent millions chasing justice, only to lose everything. One man who had been handling my case later told me I should have filed it in Lagos, because in the East, divorced women are not taken seriously.”
She added that the betrayal and stigmatization changed her outlook on life completely.
“Even friends you thought liked you were low-key worried you might take their husbands. I cut them off to help their insecurities. I learnt and unlearnt. Now I guard my heart and mind closely, because one of the biggest lessons I’ve learnt is that time always exposes the face behind the mask.”
