The deadly attack occurred late Friday, September 5, 2025, when the officers were providing escort for five Chinese expatriates after a routine patrol near the company’s entrance.

Confirming the incident on Saturday, a senior NSCDC officer revealed that while four expatriates were rescued, one Chinese national was abducted by the assailants. He added that four other individuals sustained injuries and are currently receiving treatment at an undisclosed hospital.

“Eight of our operatives were indeed killed by kidnappers. A formal statement will be issued from Abuja later today,” the officer disclosed.

Edo State Commandant, Agun Gbenga, has since visited both the crime scene and the hospital where the wounded are receiving care. Meanwhile, joint security teams have launched intensive operations, combing surrounding forests in pursuit of the attackers.

In a statement released on Sunday, September 7, the management of BUA confirmed the tragedy and expressed deep sorrow over the loss of lives.

“BUA is deeply saddened by the attack in which eight NSCDC operatives and a civilian driver lost their lives near our Okpella plant,” the company stated.

“We extend heartfelt condolences to the families of the fallen, the NSCDC, and the Government of Nigeria, while wishing the injured a speedy recovery. We are gravely concerned about the abduction of a foreign expatriate and are working closely with security agencies to ensure his safe return.

“This horrific attack is a painful reminder of the daily sacrifices made by our security personnel. Their courage and dedication will never be forgotten.”
