In a statement, CISLAC’s executive director, Mallam Auwal Musa Rafsanjani, emphasized that these developments should not be exploited to justify declaring a state of emergency in Kano. He warned that the situation could lead to chaos and anarchy, undermining the peace and stability not just in Kano, but throughout Northern Nigeria.
Rafsanjani criticized the actions surrounding the court ruling, which enabled the controversial reinstatement of Emir Sanusi. He expressed concern over the legitimacy of the court order, noting that it was issued by a judge who is currently out of the country. This raises significant questions about the validity and appropriateness of the ruling.
He further condemned the reliance on this court order to justify the involvement of police and security forces in Kano, stating that it only heightens tensions. Rafsanjani stressed that the state government holds the constitutional authority to appoint and confirm traditional leaders, including the Emir. Any attempts to undermine this authority and push Kano into disorder are unacceptable.
CISLAC urged all relevant authorities to engage in dialogue and adhere to lawful processes to resolve the crisis.
