Do2dtun Sparks Reactions, Accuses Traders Of Double Standards Over Chinese Businesses

Media personality and radio presenter Do2dtun has criticised traders who protested against Chinese merchants at the Lagos International Trade Fair Complex, accusing them of applying what he described as double standards.

According to Bush Radio Academy, Do2dtun expressed his position in a post on X while reacting to the traders’ protest. The traders had raised concerns over allegations that some Chinese businesses had expanded from manufacturing and wholesale activities into direct retail sales, putting them in competition with Nigerian retailers.

In his reaction, Do2dtun questioned the basis of the protest and argued that foreign businesses should not necessarily be forced out of a market simply because they are able to offer goods at lower prices than some local traders.

The media personality also compared the situation with previous incidents involving Nigerians and foreigners in other countries. He referenced Nigerians who have faced restrictions or hostility abroad and questioned whether similar standards should apply when foreigners operate businesses in Nigeria.

Do2dtun further raised questions about Nigerians who own or operate shops and businesses in China, asking how such activities should be viewed if foreign traders are being challenged for doing business in Nigeria.

He described the traders’ reaction as “selective outrage” and accused them of hypocrisy over what he considered inconsistent positions on the treatment of Nigerian and foreign business owners.

“Selective outrage. You hated the fact that you were asked to leave Lagos. You called it tribalism. You hated the fact that South Africans chased Nigerians out of South Africa. You called it Xenophobia. What do you call chasing foreigners out of a place because they sell cheaper than you?” he wrote.

Do2dtun’s comments have added another perspective to the ongoing debate over the activities of foreign businesses and the concerns of Nigerian traders about competition at the Lagos International Trade Fair Complex.
