Di’ja signed a deal with Mavin Records on February 14, 2014, and went on to release several singles and an EP under the label between 2014 and 2017.
Although she later clarified in 2023 that she never officially left the label, she explained that circumstances simply led to a natural separation.
Speaking on a recent episode of the Crea8torium podcast, Don Jazzy recalled that the decision was emotionally charged, noting that even Di’ja could sense his discomfort at the time.
He explained that the experience was especially painful because he considers all his artistes as family.
According to him, the moment was overwhelming for everyone involved, as emotions ran high during the discussion.
“One of the most difficult decisions of my career was when I had to let Di’ja go. It was really hard, and I don’t think I will personally handle such decisions again. Tega and Rima now manage those situations when an artist needs to leave the label,” he said.
He added that every artiste under his label is like a child to him, which made the situation even more emotional.
“It was painful for both of us. Di’ja could see how hard it was for me, and she even questioned why I was involved in that discussion. Everyone ended up emotional. It was a very tough moment,” he added.
