The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has issued a stern warning to the National Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Senator Ajibola Bashiru, urging him to steer clear of political affairs in Rivers State.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

Wike’s reaction follows comments by Bashiru criticising the APC South-South National Vice Chairman, Victor Giadom, over remarks he made during a recent thank-you visit by Wike to Gokana Local Government Area. Giadom had referred to Siminalayi Fubara as a “so-called governor” of Rivers State, a description Bashiru publicly condemned.

In a Facebook post, Bashiru described Giadom’s comment as disrespectful to the office of a sitting governor and damaging to the image of the party.

“I find it unfortunate that a member of the NWC, who is the Vice Chairman of the South-South zone of the APC, would refer to a governor in our party as a ‘so-called governor of Rivers State,’” Bashiru stated.

He stressed that political disagreements should not override respect for elected offices, adding that such language was inappropriate for someone occupying a sensitive party position.

Responding during a political rally in Oyigbo, Rivers State, Wike fired back, warning Bashiru against making statements about Rivers politics.

He cautioned that the APC should not take Rivers State’s support for President Bola Tinubu for granted and advised the party secretary to be mindful of his utterances.

“You are enjoying political comfort in Osun today without knowing those who did the hard work,” Wike said. “You are opening your mouth to talk about Rivers State—anything you see, take it.”

Wike further threatened to raise the issue with the Minister of Blue Economy, Gboyega Oyetola, warning Bashiru to learn from others who had previously crossed political lines in Rivers State.

“Carry your hand to Rivers State, and if it burns you, don’t say I burned it,” Wike said. “This state is a no-go area. Whether you like it or not, stop making unnecessary comments.”

The minister’s remarks underscore the deepening tensions within the APC over Rivers State politics as alignments ahead of future elections continue to spark internal disputes.
