Ngelale mentioned that this appointment would be subject to confirmation by the Senate and was made in accordance with Section 8 (1) of the CBN Act, 2007.

This section grants the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria the authority to appoint the CBN Governor and four Deputy Governors.

In addition to Dr. Cardoso’s nomination, President Tinubu also approved the nominations of Mrs. Emem Nnana Usoro, Mr. Muhammad Sani Abdullahi Dattijo, Mr. Philip Ikeazor, and Dr. Bala M. Bello to serve as Deputy Governors at the CBN for a five-year term. These appointments are also contingent upon Senate confirmation.

President Tinubu urged the nominees to implement essential reforms at the central bank to instill confidence among Nigerians and international partners in the process of economic restructuring.
