Drama As Amotekun Arrests Man Who Reported His Siblings Missing

A man who reportedly approached the Ondo State Security Network Agency, Amotekun Corps, to report the alleged kidnapping of his siblings has been arrested after investigators allegedly uncovered his involvement in a fake abduction plot.

The development reportedly followed the arrest of four suspects accused of staging a self-kidnapping and circulating false information on social media in Akure North Local Government Area of Ondo State.

The Commander of the Amotekun Corps, Adetunji Adeleye, disclosed the development on Monday while parading 53 suspects arrested for various offences across the state.

According to the commander, the suspects allegedly fabricated a kidnapping incident and used social media platforms to spread the false information, thereby misleading security agencies and members of the public.

Adeleye explained that investigations later revealed that one of the individuals who reported the alleged abduction was reportedly part of the scheme.

He said the man had initially gone to the Amotekun office to report that his siblings had been kidnapped. However, further investigation allegedly led operatives to his residence, where they found the individual who was reportedly claimed to have been kidnapped.

The commander warned residents against circulating unverified information, noting that false reports could create unnecessary panic and divert security agencies from genuine emergencies.

The arrests, he said, formed part of a broader security operation that led to the apprehension of 53 suspects in connection with offences including kidnapping, murder, cultism, rape, cattle rustling, impersonation, theft and conspiracy.

Adeleye also disclosed that 21 suspected illegal immigrants were arrested in Owo. He said the individuals were allegedly found engaging in suspicious activities, with many reportedly unable to produce the required ECOWAS travel documents.

According to him, the suspects would be handed over to the Nigeria Immigration Service for further investigation and appropriate action.

The commander further revealed that Amotekun operatives had disrupted an alleged diesel theft syndicate accused of stealing petroleum products worth millions of naira from a construction company and a quarry site along the Ondo Road in Akure.

He said the operation had brought the suspected activities to an end and helped prevent further financial losses.

Adeleye reaffirmed the corps’ commitment to combating criminal activities across Ondo State and urged residents to provide security agencies with timely and credible information that could assist in preventing crime.
