Drama As Soldiers Rescue General’s Wife From Kidnappers, Two Arrested

Troops of the Nigerian Army have rescued Mrs Adonkie, the wife of retired Brigadier General Basil Adonkie, after she was abducted by suspected kidnappers from her residence in Abuja.

The incident reportedly occurred on Tuesday, September 1, prompting security forces to launch an immediate operation aimed at locating the victim and apprehending her abductors.

According to Bush Radio Academy, troops from the Guards Brigade and Army Headquarters Garrison were mobilised following intelligence on the abduction and began tracking the suspected kidnappers through the Aco Estate–Goza Community axis.

The military said the troops eventually made contact with the suspected kidnappers, who reportedly abandoned the victim and fled into nearby bushes after being confronted by the soldiers.

Mrs Adonkie was subsequently rescued at Angwan Sabo Village and taken to safety.

The Army explained that the operation continued after the rescue, with troops deployed along the Aco Estate–Angwan Sayawa axis and other strategic locations believed to be possible escape routes used by the fleeing suspects.

On Wednesday, September 2, soldiers reportedly intercepted suspected members of the kidnapping gang around Gaube Village in Kuje Area Council.

Two suspects were arrested during the operation, while troops also recovered an AK-47 rifle, one magazine and 19 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition.

The Nigerian Army said clearance and tracking operations were still ongoing across communities in the area as security forces intensified efforts to apprehend other members of the suspected kidnapping syndicate.

The successful rescue of the retired general’s wife and the arrest of two suspects mark another major operation by security forces against kidnapping activities in the Federal Capital Territory.
