The leader of the Kwankwasiyya movement and a chieftain of the Nigerian Democratic Congress, Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, has responded sharply to Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf over comments regarding allegations that the governor was once his political protégé.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

Kwankwaso, in a recent interview with Trust TV, had referred to Governor Yusuf as “Abba PA,” insisting that he played a key role in his political rise and eventual emergence as governor.

In reaction, Governor Yusuf criticised the statement, describing it as disrespectful and inappropriate, arguing that it was wrong for the 69-year-old former governor to refer to him as a “boy,” despite their close age difference.

However, speaking to supporters at his Miller Road residence in Kano on Wednesday, Kwankwaso defended his remarks, insisting that many politicians who emerged from his political structure cannot deny the influence he had on their careers.

He stated that it was unreasonable for individuals who benefited from his political mentorship to reject that history, adding that even former Governor Abdullahi Ganduje could not deny his past association with him.

Kwankwaso explained that his comments were made in a political context, aimed at highlighting his role in shaping several political figures in Kano State.

Governor Yusuf’s response marked his first open criticism of Kwankwaso since their political relationship deteriorated earlier in the year.

The governor also stated that Kwankwaso’s repeated remarks should not be interpreted as intimidation or an attempt to undermine him, adding that his silence over previous months was intentional.

He further warned Kwankwaso to be cautious in his public comments, suggesting that continued attacks could provoke a more detailed response.

The rift between both Kano politicians deepened after Yusuf reportedly distanced himself from Kwankwaso’s political camp.

Since the fallout, Kwankwaso has repeatedly accused Yusuf of betrayal, arguing that the governor rose to power under the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) platform before later aligning with the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
