The event is billed to take place at the ‘A’ Class Event Centre in Wuse 2, Abuja, and is set to commence at 10 a.m.

Invitations for the convention were jointly signed by the faction’s National Publicity Secretary, Ini Ememobong, and National Organising Secretary, Theophilus Dakas Shan.

According to the invitation details, the convention will conclude the process of endorsing Jonathan as the party’s flagbearer ahead of the upcoming general election.

This development follows a series of steps taken by the Kabiru Turaki-led faction to position the former president for the race.

Earlier in May, the faction’s screening committee granted Jonathan a waiver and approved him as the sole aspirant for the presidential ticket. The committee was chaired by former Niger State Governor, Babangida Aliyu, who noted that Jonathan’s extensive public service experience influenced the decision.

Jonathan has previously served as deputy governor, governor, vice president, and president of Nigeria.

Following the screening exercise, the faction also conducted a presidential primary on Wednesday, ahead of the expected ratification at Saturday’s convention.

The move comes shortly after a Federal High Court in Abuja ruled that Jonathan remains eligible to contest the 2027 presidential election. Justice Peter Lifu dismissed a suit seeking to disqualify him, stating that the plaintiff lacked legal standing and failed to demonstrate any personal injury.

The court further referenced earlier rulings from both the Federal High Court in Yenagoa and the Court of Appeal, which upheld Jonathan’s eligibility.

The faction welcomed the judgment, describing it as a major validation of Jonathan’s candidacy and saying it removed all legal obstacles to his participation in the presidential race.
