Drama In Ogun: Five Arrested In Cross-Border Police Sting, Trafficked Ghanaian Rescued

The Nigeria Police Force, through its INTERPOL Annexe at FCID Alagbon in Lagos, has rescued a 24-year-old Ghanaian victim of human trafficking and arrested five suspects in a cross-border sting operation. The action followed a request for assistance from the National Central Bureau in Accra, Ghana, on September 15.

Force Public Relations Officer, Benjamin Hundeyin, confirmed the operation in a statement issued on Sunday, September 28.

According to him, preliminary investigations revealed that the victim and his father were lured into Nigeria in July 2025 by one Hassana Abban, a 25-year-old Ghanaian woman residing in Ofada, Ogun State. Abban allegedly deceived them with promises of travel to Canada, collecting about 40,000 Cedis (approximately ₦4.96 million) under the guise of travel arrangements.

“On arrival in Nigeria, their passports and mobile phones were confiscated, and they were coerced into working on fraudulent online trading platforms,” Hundeyin said.

Acting on the intelligence request from INTERPOL Accra, operatives tracked the suspects and rescued the victims on September 16 in Ogun State. Abban was arrested alongside four accomplices: Odubuasi David (Nigerian), Yahaya Salifu (Ghanaian), Sherifa Haruna (Ghanaian), and Ebenezer Ofosu (Ghanaian).

All five suspects are currently in custody, while investigations continue. The rescued victims have since been reunited with their families in Ghana.

Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, commended the professionalism of the officers involved and restated the Force’s dedication to international collaboration in fighting human trafficking and other transnational crimes. He further assured that no cross-border criminal syndicate would go unpunished.
