State Chairman Hon. Sunday Bisi made the announcement during a press briefing in Osogbo on Monday, explaining that the turmoil within the party’s national hierarchy had made it impossible to carry out the statutory processes required for the primaries.
Bisi clarified that Governor Ademola Jackson Nurudeen Adeleke had met all requirements to participate in the primary election.
According to him, “His Excellency… purchased and submitted the expression of interest and nomination forms within the stipulated window… He was screened, cleared without reservations, and issued a Certificate of Clearance in accordance with party procedures.”
The chairman noted that the crisis, characterized by the “suspension and counter-suspension of key national officers,” disrupted the party’s ability to conduct the ad-hoc ward and local government congresses scheduled for November 24 and 29.
“These congresses are essential because they elect the delegates for the primaries,” Bisi stressed, adding that many of the disputes are currently before courts nationwide. He emphasized that without delegates, holding a proper primary is impossible.
Primary No Longer Feasible, Adeleke May Withdraw
“In light of these developments, it has become inevitable that the PDP governorship primaries set for Tuesday, December 2nd, 2025, can no longer take place as planned,” the state party chairman declared.
Bisi further revealed that Governor Adeleke, the only aspirant who purchased and submitted nomination forms, may withdraw from the race if the national crisis persists.
He stated, “The information at my disposal is that Governor Ademola Adeleke may no longer be interested in seeking the PDP nomination for the 2026 Osun Gubernatorial Election, unless a resolution recognized by INEC is reached within the INEC timeline.”
The PDP chairman assured party members that efforts are ongoing to resolve the impasse.
“We assure you that the leadership of the party, both at the state and national levels, is working round the clock to ensure a lawful, workable, and timely resolution to the challenges at hand,” he said.
Bisi described the briefing as part of the party’s commitment to transparency and to keeping Osun residents fully informed.
