Police announced the apprehension of an individual who drove a vehicle into the gates of Buckingham Palace in London over the weekend, as reported on Sunday. The Metropolitan Police disclosed that the incident occurred at 02:30 GMT on Saturday when the car “collided with the gates” of the royal residence. The man was promptly arrested by armed officers on the scene under suspicion of criminal damage and subsequently taken to a hospital, according to a police spokesperson.

Fortunately, no injuries were reported in the incident. Ongoing investigations are being conducted to ascertain the circumstances surrounding the crash, the spokesperson added. Buckingham Palace, the official residence of the British royal family, is heavily secured with stringent security measures, constantly monitored by armed officers.

This incident is not the first breach attempt at the palace. In September of the previous year, a 25-year-old man was arrested for attempting to enter the royal stables. Additionally, before King Charles III’s coronation in May, a man was apprehended for throwing shotgun cartridges into the palace grounds. In a similar incident that same month, a 43-year-old man was arrested for ramming his car into the gates protecting Downing Street, the residence of British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak.

The security challenges at Buckingham Palace highlight the ongoing efforts to ensure the safety of the royal family and the iconic landmark. The police are actively working to address and prevent such incidents in the future.
