A Nigerian woman has taken to X to advise fellow ladies preparing for marriage to keep their family names if they choose to, stressing that it won’t negatively impact their lives.

Rachelle, who has been married for four years, revealed that she retained her maiden name and it has not stopped her from relocating abroad, having a child, or even travelling alone with her child.

When asked if she would have made the same decision had she married into a wealthy or influential family, she firmly stated that her name is her identity and she would never change it for any reason.
