DSS Grants Bail To NLC Leader Joe Ajaero After Detention

Naija News previously reported that DSS operatives apprehended Ajaero on Monday morning at Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport while he was en route to the United Kingdom for a Trade Union Congress (TUC) conference.

In response to his arrest, the NLC convened an emergency meeting of its National Administrative Council (NAC) to deliberate on the situation and determine a course of action.

After the meeting, the NLC strongly condemned Ajaero’s detention, labeling it an assault on Nigerian workers. The union demanded his immediate and unconditional release by midnight, stating that the arrest was not just an attack on Ajaero but on the entire Nigerian workforce.

The union’s communiqué, signed by Deputy President Adeyanju Adewale, placed all affiliates, state councils, and Nigerians on high alert. The NLC suggested that Ajaero’s arrest was a tactic to stall the implementation of the new minimum wage.

Additionally, the NLC reiterated its call for the government to reverse the price of petrol to ₦617 per litre.

To plan further actions, the NLC has summoned an emergency meeting of its National Executive Council (NEC) for tomorrow, 10th September, to discuss the unfolding situation and strategize a response.

The NLC warned the government against the growing trend of targeting dissenting voices and affirmed its commitment to defending workers’ rights and safeguarding the freedoms of all Nigerians.
