The mother of the deceased held the lecturer responsible for her daughter’s suicide, expressing her anguish by stating, “Dr. Enyi claims to be the best, boasting that nobody can teach as effectively as him. He should come and bear the responsibility for my daughter’s tragic fate.”

An eyewitness to the incident, Rex Nwome, revealed that Favour was deeply distressed over her repeated failures in the course and was eager to graduate. Despite passing all other courses, she had to pay additional fees for an extra year to retake the lecturer’s course, only to fail again. The news of her exclusion from the latest NYSC list exacerbated her despair, as she felt hopeless and alone in seeking help from the university.

Nwome lamented, “Favour, my close friend and classmate in the English Department, faced relentless opposition from the aforementioned lecturer, who vowed to obstruct her graduation. Her relentless struggle with depression, coupled with the disappointments, drove her to take this tragic step. I wish she hadn’t resorted to such extreme measures. Rest in peace, Ugwuka Favour, until we meet again.”

Confirming the incident, DSP Joshua Ukandu, the spokesperson of the Ebonyi Police Command, acknowledged that the matter had been reported to headquarters, indicating the severity of the situation.
