He asserted that the LP had a clear advantage in areas such as Ward 9 in Esan Central, but the state electoral commission announced results to the contrary. Additionally, he alleged that the party secured victories in various other polling units, including polling unit 9, Ward 3, Okpoji, and noted that similar situations occurred in several places.
Omofoma, who serves as the leader of the Edo Central Senatorial District, expressed disappointment that the Edo State Independent Electoral Commission had not met the expectations of the people. He cautioned against jeopardizing the progress achieved in Nigeria’s democracy.
It is worth recalling that the LP’s national chairman, Julius Abure, had earlier condemned the election and called on Edo State Governor, Godwin Obaseki, to nullify the exercise and conduct a fresh one.
Omofoma highlighted that Nigeria’s democracy faces threats “across all levels of our national life” due to the actions and activities of those entrusted with championing it.
He urged the international community, particularly ECOWAS, AU, and the UN, to scrutinize the conduct of politicians in Nigeria to safeguard the nation’s democratic achievements.
