Edo State Governor, Monday Okpebholo, has approved the renaming of Edo State University, Uzairue, to Edo University, Iyamho.
This decision was announced on Monday in Benin City by the Secretary to the State Government, Umar Ikhilor, who confirmed that the name change takes immediate effect. The statement also directed that all official documentation for the institution reflect the new name.
“It is hereby announced for public information that the Governor of Edo State, Senator Monday Okpebholo, has approved the change of the name of ‘Edo State University, Uzairue’ to now be known as ‘Edo University, Iyamho,’ effective immediately. All related documentation shall henceforth reflect this change,” the statement read.
Edo State to Compensate Property Owners Affected by Obaseki’s Administration
In a related development, the Edo State Government has announced plans to compensate individuals whose lands or properties were forcibly acquired or destroyed during the administration of former Governor Godwin Obaseki.
The Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Samson Osagie, disclosed this in Benin City on Monday, stating that Governor Okpebholo’s administration is committed to addressing past injustices and ensuring harmony across the state.
Osagie highlighted that the previous administration acquired community lands and properties without offering compensation, but the current government is investigating complaints and will provide restitution where necessary.
The Attorney General assured that his ministry is prepared to handle lawsuits effectively to prevent distractions and ensure justice is served.
