In a statement issued by his Chief Press Secretary, Fred Itua, Okpebholo pointed out that the PDP in Edo has drastically lost its former influence. He accused the party’s leaders of focusing on unproductive complaints against a government that is steadily gaining the trust of the people, rather than seeking to recover politically.

He likened the PDP to a person struggling to survive in turbulent waters, desperately clinging to anything that might create the illusion of political relevance.

“The Edo PDP is in a critical condition, gasping for survival. Instead of focusing on recovery, its leaders are wasting their dwindling resources on futile outbursts. Their recent actions, far from garnering public sympathy, only expose the truth: the PDP is in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), struggling for air, and its leaders are squandering their last breaths on unproductive tantrums,” Okpebholo’s statement read.

He went on to state that the PDP is not just struggling but facing terminal political irrelevance. The once-powerful party is now fractured and mired in scandal, reduced to a group of desperate voices clinging to lies, propaganda, and misinformation in an attempt to stay in the public’s eye.

“The same PDP that crushed its foundational members, the Legacy PDP, under the weight of impunity and godfatherism, now pretends to champion the people’s cause. The party’s self-appointed critics of Governor Okpebholo are not motivated by patriotism or genuine concern for Edo’s progress. Rather, they are the desperate growls of a wounded lion that has lost its territory,” the statement continued.

Governor Okpebholo also attributed the downfall of the PDP to former Governor Godwin Obaseki and his associates, accusing them of running the party into the ground with their arrogance, sidelining loyal members, imposing candidates, and treating governance as a personal business empire.

“Now that they have been rejected by the people in the September 21, 2024 governorship election, their remaining supporters have resorted to an attack-dog strategy, criticizing every move of the Okpebholo-led government,” the statement concluded.
