During questioning, the suspects admitted to having vandalized and stolen approximately 100 feet of cable the previous week. Ogbebor stated that the suspects will face legal charges once the investigation is concluded.

In an interview with NAN, Friday Alex, who claimed to be a local vigilante, said hunger and delayed payments from their security employer drove their actions. He pleaded for leniency, vowing not to repeat the offense. Favour Orji, an apprentice who had dropped out of school, cited economic hardship as his reason for involvement, explaining that he came to Benin in search of a better life but resorted to this crime due to difficult circumstances.
