Contrary to claims made by Atiku, who suggested that the EFCC was investigating him over financial dealings involving Sanwo-Olu, the anti-graft agency clarified that Achimugu is being probed for alleged criminal conspiracy and money laundering, which has no connection with either politician.

In a statement on Friday, March 28, EFCC’s Head of Media & Publicity, Dele Oyewale, emphasized that the commission remains non-partisan and urged the public to trust its professionalism, dismissing any insinuations of political bias.

According to the statement, Achimugu has been declared wanted by the EFCC since 2022. Although she initially sought a court injunction to prevent her arrest and investigation, the Federal High Court in Abuja vacated the injunction on February 19, 2025. The court ruled that no judicial body could halt the investigative powers of the EFCC or other law enforcement agencies when there is reasonable suspicion of criminal activity.

Furthermore, the court upheld the interim order for the forfeiture of Achimugu’s assets, suspected to be proceeds of crime, and dismissed her legal challenge as lacking merit.

The EFCC reiterated that the case against Achimugu is strictly related to financial crimes and is not connected to any political figure or transaction. The commission urged the public to maintain confidence in its impartiality and adherence to professional standards.
