He claimed that certain individuals had been paid and transported to Kogi State to receive briefings on how to proceed with his recall. Imasuen expressed disbelief over the situation, questioning how people from Kogi State could attempt to manipulate the people of Edo.
He voiced his concerns while speaking to journalists in Benin City about his role as Chairman of the Senate Committee on Ethics, Privileges, and Public Petitions. Imasuen emphasized that there is no political connection between Edo and Kogi States, making such a recall effort doomed to fail. He urged the plotters to abandon their plans.
Imasuen stated, “I have been advised not to speak on this matter, and I have followed that advice, but what is happening in Benin now is deeply troubling. From what I understand, some individuals have been paid and taken to Kogi to receive instructions on how to proceed. They were given money for this purpose.”
He further expressed confusion, saying, “I don’t see how someone from Kogi can come to Edo and tell our people to start causing trouble. It’s strange to me. The hunger in the land is so deep that some will sell their mothers for a piece of food. I understand their desperation.”
As the Chairman of the Senate Committee on Ethics, Privileges, and Public Petitions, Imasuen clarified that his role focused on issues that occurred on the Senate floor, not sexual harassment cases. He pointed out that the Senate has a standing order that should be followed, which Natasha had not adhered to in her case.
He continued, “I’ve been in this position for over two years, and it’s one of the seven standing committees that the Senate is required to set up. It’s an important position, and I’m proud of it. When I was appointed, I had no idea this scandal would unfold. But as the chair, it’s my responsibility to handle whatever comes across my desk.”
Imasuen also stressed that he had never been biased against Senator Natasha. He clarified, “I was not biased, and I still am not. When the first petition was filed, it was signed by her. According to the rules, you cannot sign a petition against yourself. That is against our standards.”
