In a tweet shared on Wednesday via its official handle, the anti-graft agency disclosed that Haruna’s arrest stemmed from a petition filed in December 2023 by an undisclosed individual. The petitioner had engaged with the suspect in a foreign exchange transaction involving N1,020,000.00.

According to the EFCC, the petitioner reportedly deposited the specified amount into Haruna’s account with the expectation of receiving its equivalent in dollars. However, the petitioner later realized that the evidence of payment provided by the suspect was false, as the dollar equivalent was never received.

Preliminary investigations revealed that Haruna, who claimed to be an airline captain, allegedly diverted the funds for personal use. He purportedly used the money to acquire property and vehicles, intending to launch his alleged airline company, Air Unity Aviation Services.

The statement further detailed that traced assets included a landed property purchased at N155,000, another acquired at N350,000, three 18-seater Toyota Hiace buses adorned with the Air Unity Aviation Services logo, and four luxury cars—all linked to the suspect.
