This announcement comes just 24 hours before the rerun of the governorship primary in the state. The APC had declared the initial shadow election inconclusive and scheduled a fresh poll for February 22 after an emergency meeting at the secretariat in Abuja.

The previous poll on February 17 had resulted in conflicting declarations of winners. Uzodimma announced Dennis Idahosa as the winner, while the returning officer, Stanley Ugboaja, declared Monday Okpebholo as the victor. Another individual, Ojo Babatunde, claiming to represent the returning officers in all local governments, declared Anamero Dekeri as the winner.

In response to the rerun election, the four aspirants issued a joint statement asserting their lack of confidence in Uzodimma’s committee to conduct the election. They argued that Uzodimma did not adhere to the minimum requirements for compliance with the relevant provisions of the laws and regulations guiding the election, both in the Electoral Act and the APC Constitution.

The statement emphasized their belief that replacing Uzodimma with another respected member of the party as chairman would ensure compliance with the law, maintain internal democracy, and safeguard the integrity and goodwill of the President. They expressed confidence in the President’s commitment to justice, equity, and fairness in the process, calling for a remedy to the perceived misconduct and a fair outcome in the rescheduled governorship primary on February 22, 2024.
