EFCC Uncovers Rifle, 86 Phones In Abuja Hotel Bust On Suspected Fraudsters
Operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on Monday, June 30, carried out a raid on Joyous Hotel, located in the Nyanya area of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), arresting 74 individuals suspected of engaging in internet fraud, commonly referred to as Yahoo Boys.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
According to reports, the hotel had been a hideout for several suspected cybercriminals before EFCC operatives swooped in.
EFCC spokesperson Dele Oyewale confirmed the arrests in an official statement, revealing that the operation was prompted by credible intelligence on the suspects’ alleged involvement in internet-related crimes.
“The suspects were apprehended based on actionable intelligence regarding their participation in cybercrime,” Oyewale said.
During the operation, EFCC operatives recovered one rifle, 86 mobile phones, and three motorcycles from the suspects.
EFCC Chairman Ola Olukoyede has persistently raised alarms over the rise in cybercrime, emphasizing that such activities are tarnishing Nigeria’s global image and subjecting innocent citizens to undue scrutiny abroad.
This latest raid forms part of a wider clampdown on cybercrime by the EFCC, which has ramped up efforts in recent months to arrest and prosecute internet fraudsters nationwide.
