EFCC Under Fire: Agency Reacts To Video Showing Damaged Apartment After Midnight Operation

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has addressed a viral video that showed the aftermath of a raid on a lady’s apartment in Majesty Estate, Port Harcourt.

In a statement released on Friday, August 1, 2025, the anti-graft agency confirmed that its operatives conducted a sting operation in the estate in response to distress calls from residents who reported suspicious activities linked to internet fraud.

The EFCC disclosed that 37 suspects were apprehended during the operation. One of the apartments flagged during the raid was visited by their operatives, but the occupant allegedly refused to open the door despite what they described as proper identification. This, they said, led to the door being forcefully opened.

The agency noted that no arrest or item was recovered from that particular apartment and denied any claims of harassment or misconduct by its officers.

EFCC described reports of damage and abuse as “unfounded and unnecessary,” asserting that several residents actually praised the operation and its outcome.

The statement reaffirmed the Commission’s commitment to professionalism and warned that any operative found guilty of misconduct would face disciplinary action.
