Governor Soludo In Viral Video: ‘One-Term Promise Is Madness

Anambra State Governor, Chukwuma Soludo, has declared that any politician who promises to serve only one term in office should undergo psychiatric evaluation.

He made this statement during the Anambra South endorsement rally organized to support his re-election bid. Soludo questioned the logic behind such a promise, asking supporters to cite any instance where it has genuinely occurred.

He emphasized that the Nigerian Constitution permits two terms in office and does not mandate a single term.

“How can anyone in their right mind… do you think you’re talking to fools? You come to the people and say, ‘I will only do one term.’ Any politician who says that should be taken to a psychiatric hospital — there must be something wrong mentally,” Soludo said.

His remarks appear to reference recent comments made by former Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, who said he would consider serving a single term and transferring power to the North in 2031 if that were the consensus of a coalition. Obi stressed that character and integrity are more important to him than clinging to power.
