EFCC Under Fire: PDP Condemns Tambuwal Arrest As Political Witch Hunt
The Sokoto State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has strongly condemned the invitation and subsequent detention of former Governor Senator Aminu Tambuwal by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
Tambuwal, who served as Sokoto State governor for eight years and was previously the Speaker of the House of Representatives, was invited by the EFCC on Monday over allegations of financial misconduct and unlawful withdrawals during his tenure.
In a statement released Tuesday morning and signed by the party’s Publicity Secretary, Hassan Sanyinnawal, the Sokoto PDP described Tambuwal’s detention as a politically motivated attempt to silence opposition voices.
The party accused the EFCC of conducting a “fishing expedition” based on revived old, baseless cases.
They asserted that the arrest and detention are part of a broader strategy by the All Progressives Congress (APC)-led Federal Government to intimidate political opponents and suppress rising opposition to President Bola Tinubu’s administration.
The PDP stated: “This so-called investigation is merely a fishing expedition, resurrected from an old phantom case that has consistently failed to yield any evidence. It is orchestrated by political actors in Sokoto and Abuja aiming to tarnish Tambuwal’s respected reputation and coerce him into abandoning his stand against misgovernance.”
The party highlighted that Tambuwal’s administration was characterized by fiscal responsibility and transparency.
It accused the EFCC of selective prosecution, ignoring genuine corruption cases involving members of the ruling party.
The PDP urged the EFCC to conduct its duties with impartiality and called on its supporters and the people of Sokoto State to remain calm yet steadfast in demanding true democracy and good governance.
They concluded that Tambuwal’s integrity remains unshaken despite politically driven investigations.
