Sh*ck Ban! Ibom Air Bars Emmanso Forever, Peter Obi Reacts Strongly

In a statement posted on on Tuesday titled, “The Poor Must Not Be Punished While the Powerful Walk Free,” Obi described the ban as fundamentally unfair and unjust.

The former Governor of Anambra State questioned the procedures that led to Emmanson’s sanction, asking whether all legal and compassionate options were properly explored before the decision.

Obi also compared the swift action taken against Emmanson with the slow or absent response when influential or politically connected individuals are involved, referencing the case of Fuji singer King Wasiu Ayinde Marshal (KWAM1).

He said, “Yesterday, I sincerely apologized to Ibom Air and its crew for the unacceptable behavior of one of their passengers.

“But this morning, I learned that the young woman, Ms. Comfort Emmanson, in her twenties, has been banned from flying for life. This starkly reveals how our system works — echoing Anacharsis’ words that ‘the law is like a spider’s web: it catches the weak, while the powerful break through with ease.’

“There is something deeply wrong and unjust about this authoritarian decision. What due process was followed overnight to reach this harsh punishment? Have we truly exhausted all avenues of justice and compassion?

“It’s a tragic irony that a young woman can be banned for life, while those who commit far graver offenses remain free and often celebrated. Those in authority who harm the nation continue to move about with impunity. In Ms. Emmanson’s case, the authorities acted swiftly, but that same urgency is missing when the powerful are involved.

“If this young woman, who admittedly acted wrongly, wants to apologize, who will listen in a country where the pain of the poor is often ignored and the dignity of the less privileged dismissed? Justice must be consistent, or else it becomes oppression disguised as law.

“This must change. Justice must be equal for everyone. There should be space for compassion, rehabilitation, and understanding when misconduct arises from frustration or misplaced anger. Power must never decide who is punished and who is pardoned.”
