In a related incident, the study center of the National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN) located in Eze Oke Nsu, Ehime Mbano Council Area of Imo State, was also torched. The Imo State Police Command has confirmed that arrests have been made in connection with these arson cases.

Imo State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) Henry Okoye announced to the press in Owerri, “I am pleased to report that over eight suspects have been arrested regarding the arson incidents in Ehime Mbano. Investigations are ongoing, and more details will be provided in due course.”

The attack on Senator Ibezim’s residence and the NOUN study center has drawn significant attention. Ibezim, who previously served as the senator for Imo North (Okigwe zone) and is a native of Nsu in Ehime Mbano, was recently accused of establishing a refugee and Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) camp for Fulani individuals at the NOUN campus. He has publicly denied these claims.

In a statement addressing the allegations, Ibezim said, “I feel it is necessary to clarify some misinformation stemming from the TVC news coverage of my recent visit to the NOUN Nsu Study Centre. I was accompanied by the Federal Commissioner for Refugees, Migrants, and Internally Displaced Persons, along with the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation.

“I must emphasize that the video of refugees featured in the TVC broadcast, which has understandably caused concern, was not filmed in Imo State. The suggestion that there is an intention to settle IDPs, refugees, or migrants at the NOUN Nsu Centre is completely false.
