The Speaker of the Ekiti State House of Assembly, Adeoye Aribasoye, has officially endorsed the appointment of Titilope Agbede as the new Clerk of the Assembly. According to the statement, Agbede’s selection followed a thorough evaluation process in accordance with Section 9(1) of the Ekiti State House of Assembly Commission Law, 2022. Agbede will take over from the Assembly’s Deputy Clerk, Opeyemi Ajibola, who has been serving in an acting capacity since May. Agbede’s appointment is subject to confirmation by the House.
Agbede, a native of Ikole Local Government Area in Ekiti State, previously held the position of Deputy Clerk (Legislative Matters) before her promotion to Clerk.
In a separate development, the Court of Appeal in Akure has reinstated Hon. Iroju Ogundeji as the Deputy Speaker of the Ondo State House of Assembly. This decision follows the conclusion of his previous term and overturns a suspension imposed by the Assembly led by former Speaker Hon. David Bamidele Oleyeloogun.
Ogundeji, who had been suspended from his role and later removed from the Deputy Speaker position, challenged the suspension and removal in court. His lawyer, Oluwanike Omotayo Esq., argued that the Assembly’s actions were unconstitutional, claiming that the impeachment process did not follow the required procedures outlined in the Assembly’s rules, which mandate a two-thirds majority for the removal of any principal officer. The court’s ruling reinstates Ogundeji to his previous position.
