The governor pointed out that since taking office, he has made a conscious effort to reduce unnecessary workshops and non-essential travel that does not benefit the state. He revealed that he has traveled outside the state only once in the past year.

In an interview with Daily Trust, Oyebanji stated, “I was elected to serve the people, so my focus is not on my convenience or personal comfort. I believe that leaders should be willing to make sacrifices, and I am inherently conservative.”

The Ekiti governor also mentioned that he continues to use cars left behind by his predecessor. He likened his approach to running the state to managing his own company, ensuring that any expenditure must benefit both his personal company and the state.

Discussing the state’s finances, he emphasized that having debt is not necessarily a problem for a state, but the key question is the purpose of the debt.

He highlighted that Ekiti State has invested in numerous capital projects, and although state resources may be insufficient, he believes it is better to finance these projects through loans than to delay due to rising inflation rates.

He acknowledged that there has been an increase in the state’s revenue, although there has been no miraculous financial windfall.
